In drought-affected districts, Odisha’s School Education and Library Initiative has introduced floating community libraries on boats at reservoirs and irrigation tanks. These boats, stocked with books, digital tablets, story sessions, and workshops, dock at villages on a scheduled basis. Children, youth, and farmers access real-time educational content, agriculture PDFs, and local language storybooks. Over 2,500 participants have visited since launch. The floating libraries also host mini-events on government schemes, health, and legal literacy. The concept aims to promote education where schools are distant or infrastructure weak, and positive community feedback has prompted discussions for statewide expansion.
