Maharashtra Tests Floating Solar-Powered Garbage Boats

In pilot wetlands near Nagpur, Pune Municipal Corporation has deployed floating garbage boats that collect floating waste and deliver it to shore compost units. Each boat captures up to 200 kg of waste per day and is powered by retractable solar panels installed on its canopy. Sensors detect trash saturation and trigger return signals. The boats use conveyors to deposit waste to shore crews. Local civic bodies plan to scale this to urban lakes and river-cleaning efforts, reducing plastic pollution and urban waterway blockages.
